There’s a new entrant in the smartphone operating system arena and it is bound to make a huge splash: bada from Samsung. Today, we give you a sneak peek of apps built for that OS using ELIPS Studio. Announced at the end of 2009, this new smartphone operating system has been developed from scratch in-house by Samsung. It boasts features on a par with other OSes (like multitouch, extensive set of native UI controls, …) as well as the ability to download applications from the Samsung Apps store, albeit at a much lower price point for consumers. The Wave S8500 is the first bada-powered device. Samsung have shipped 1.3 million of those in Q3 2010, making it the most successful smartphone launch since the iPhone ! That’s why we decided that it would be worth supporting this new promising platform in a future version of ELIPS Studio. Soon you will be able to develop native cross-platform mobile apps for bada, in addition to iOS, Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile. In the 3-part video below you will get a glimpse of several applications developed with ELIPS Studio and running on the Samsung Wave.
Sneak peek part 1: TweetMWC TweetMWC is a mini twitter client fetching tweets based on hashtag search (e.g. #mwc11, #openplug …). You can get the full story behind TweetMWC in previous articles on this blog and the source code for it is available here. In this first video, we show TweetMWC running on the Samsung Wave and compare it side-by-side with its variants built for iOS 4.2, Android 2.2 and Symbian 5th Edition.
Sneak Peek part 2: UICatalog UICatalog is our reference sample application that showcases most of our APIs and UI Controls. You can get the source code for UICatalog from our samples. In this second video, we show some features of UICatalog on the bada OS.
Sneak Peek part 3: Heaven Heaven is a cards game developed by Jerome Patey. Heaven is available for iPad on Apple’s iTunes App Store. In this third video, you get a demo of Heaven on the bada-powered Wave smartphone:
What’s next ? The videos above just show a sneak peek of what will come in the future. A lot of work still remains, but stay tuned and soon you will be able to build your apps for bada devices and post them to the Samsung Apps store. |
